I am pretty much a novice with the computer but I want to buy an Ipod for myself and an Ipod Video for my daughter. Is it easy to download songs and videos? How do you go about it? Do you buy an itunes card and just follow the prompts? What about for the videos? Any info on this would help. Thanks.

Just download iTunes. It should come on a CD you get with the iPod. For tons of info go to apple.com or e-mail me if you need help.

First, download and install the free iTunes program. You can play around with that without having an iPod. I used mine for about six months before getting an iPod.

You have the option of creating an account with Apple, which you’ll want to do at some point. The account doesn’t cost anything but generally requires a credit card, and it will be linked to an email address you need to already have. Any music you buy through iTunes will be linked to this email address. Think about whether you and your daughter will want to use the same account, or have separate ones.
BTW, my advice: when you set up the account, *don’t* store your password for purchases (if you do, anyone with access to your machine can spend your money).
You and your daughter can share an iTunes "library" (where all your stuff is stored), or you can each have your own.
[For example, I have 2 iPods (a 4th gen and an old shuffle) connected to my iTunes library, and my daughter has a newer shuffle connected to her own library. I let her share my account, but she doesn't know my password, so she can't purchase music without asking me.]

When you purchase music, you can redeem gift cards and use that money, and/or you can set up an "allowance" by prepaying a certain amount; otherwise, when you make purchases the charge goes on the credit card linked to your account.

When you connect an iPod, the software for it is contained in the iTunes software. It will go thru initial installation/setup, after which it will show up in the Device list in iTunes. Whenever you connect the iPod, (by default) it will automatically sync all the music etc in iTunes onto the iPod. You can change this setting, but for getting started it’s easiest to leave it on the automatic setting.

What you can do with iTunes:
You can (for free) import music that you have stored already in your computer, and/or import music from CDs and other sources like that.

You can (for free) subscribe to thousands of podcasts (start at the iTunes store if you like, and click Podcasts).

You can (for a charge) purchase music and other content from the iTunes store.

After importing and/or purchasing music and getting it into iTunes, then you sync your iPod and all the content gets copied over to the iPod.

You can also (for free) listen to 1000+ streaming Internet radio stations in iTunes, though those don’t get copied to your iPod.

I think the whole setup is remarkably easy, although there are a lot of different ways things can be set up, and you have the ability to complicate it as much as you want!

Great instructions and support on the Apple site.
