As one of the leading travel gadgets of the year, the iPod Touch continues to curry favor with application designers across the world. But with so many being released in the run up to Christmas, it can be difficult deciding which to buy; perhaps some of these will tempt you.
One such application that has been a long time coming is the availability of Trillian on the iPod Touch. Priced at five dollars from the Apple App Store, the Instant Messenger of choice for many is finally here.
This is almost assured, as the mobile application remains loyal to its desktop counterpart as much as possible. Contacts can be organized and sorted as readily as you can from a home computer, whilst multi chats can also be had with the user friendly tabbed browser bar.
The availability of the tech on the iPod Touch has been as a result of a fair bit of development from Apple too. This allows users of Trillian to set their status, customize messages, and select avatars as required. What is also cool, is that whether the application is on or not, users will get updates of any messages, and can select to open the app or not directly.
The beauty of the app of course is in its ability to handle instant messaging from a range of platforms, and synchronize this effortlessly. However, use of it does mean that users will need a Trillian Astra account, though this too can be done via the iPod Touch.
Whilst not initially its main purpose in life, the iPod Touch is fast becoming most used as a gaming device. Mindful of this, it is worth taking at look at some of the latest games available.
One such release is The Treasures of Montezuma 2. Available for just two dollars from the App store, it contains greater challenges and more levels for players. With the first game being a popular choice for many casual games players, this looks set to be a winner over coming weeks.
Equally likely to be popular; and possibly more so, is the Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs platform game. Lovers of all three films will know the character Scrat well. The lovable squirrel’s sole aim in life seems to be his pursuit of the elusive acorn, and now gamers are invited to play the role and help him in his hilarious search.
More good news for gamers comes from powerhouse Konami, who recently announced that all mobile games in their stock will be available at just ninety-nine cents. Let the rush begin; with such titles as Silent Hill and Krazy Kart Racing being included.
For those wishing to use their iPod Touch as the music player it was initially meant to be; the latest version release of iSample is sure to get a look in. With a host of professional features now included as standard too; this is something that will give hours of entertainment.
These are of course just a few of the latest highlights. You can expect there to be many more over the next few weeks. And that is before we even get started on the iPod Touch accessories.
If you are looking for a great present to give your child this christmas, you may want to think of looking at the ipod touch. Remember that you do not need to buy it new, you could always opt for a used ipod touch.

To be sure, the iTunes App Store is full of tantalizing puzzle offerings. Whether they are of the Tetris-model or a simple match-three mind bender, most display some level of interest to iPhone users looking for a challenge. Let’s take a look at five new puzzlers that caught our eye.
Cross Fingers utilizes a simple premise: rearrange the light-colored wooden shapes to cover the dark background space. Shapes are moved simply by dragging them into place. There are two types of shapes: light wooden pieces and red wooden pieces. The red pieces offer a unique challenge, as they do not stay where they are placed, but rather slide back to their original position. You will be required to move and hold these pieces in temporary positions to facilitate moving other pieces around them. It is this element that bore the name Cross Fingers, as you are bound to get your fingers tangled as you attempt to hold multiple red pieces in place while sliding the wooden pieces around the gameboard.
Pocketball is built on the Box2D physics engine. In this game, players start with balls that drop at predefined points, and they have to fall into colored pockets. Draw ropes between pegs, which bounce the balls at different angles according to gravity. To complicate things, there are obstacles carefully placed to stump you: bombs that destroy nearby balls, gravity wells, and arrows that push balls in a direction.
Implode contains 60 levels of buildings, just begging to be reduced to rubble. Each level presents you with the drawing of a building on a chalkboard, with only the support beams visible. You are also given a limited number of bundles of dynamite or blast bombs. These explosives must be placed upon the support beams in a configuration that, when detonated, will cause the building to crumble upon itself, with the highest point of the inevitable pile of rubble below an artificial dotted line. If you are unable to drop the building below the line, you fail and must retry the level. If you succeed, you receive a letter grade (just like in school) and a point total, comprised of Explosion Points, a Height Bonus, an Unused Bomb Bonus, and a Difficulty Bonus. Each of these is converted into dollar amounts, for a total payout in each level. Achieving an A+ on any given level is quite a challenge that will require much tweaking of explosive placement. Progressing through the game will expose you to new challenges, such as beams upon which no bombs can be placed or structures supported by a surprising number of beams, making them harder to bring down.
Monumental, the latest in a series of puzzles by Dr. Knizia, brings the Mayan world to the iPhone screen. Arranged in a pair of 3 x 4 grids, rectangular stones must be shuttled either left or right into the grids. Every stone sports a certain color and number of symbols on its face. Players must fill rows within each grid by grouping stones according to color or symbol, or hopefully a combination of both. For example, you would like to have three stones that are all the same color and have the same number of symbols on their faces. A combination like this would return a great score for matched colors, symbols, and number of symbols. Unfortunately, a case like this is rare to stumble upon. If a player combines stones with the same symbols in a row, regardless of the color or number of symbols, these qualify for symbol matches and award points. An identical pair of stones in a row also scores points, regardless of what’s on the third stone. Watch out for broken stones without symbols, as these can only be matched by their color.
If you’re into word puzzle games, you might be into Wordigo, a new app by RiverEdge Game Company. Wordigo combines word creation with a hectic seven minute time limit. Unique to itself, Wordigo determines where you can build words and limits each board to a descending seven minute clock. This keeps gameplay both quick and challenging. Wordigo contains eight puzzle boards, each presenting horizontal and vertical word arrangements. Think of a partial Scrabble board with several empty areas. The point of the game is to cleverly build words using the randomly generated letter tiles. Only upon completion of one word path, can players move on to the next. Scoring can be positively influenced by ingenious vowel placement.
These iPhone puzzle games are just five of our top picks. We feel that if you decide to purchase one or all of them, you’ll enjoy the rich gameplay experience each offers. Each sports unique characteristics that set them apart from the flood of puzzle games in the App Store.
