Is there any way to update my ipod software without erasing everything?

i have an ipod touch 1st generation and want to update the software to the 3.0 i already downloaded it and everything but when i press update it says that if i do it will erase everything: music, videos,etc.
is there any way that i can update it without erasing everything?

No, you have to backup everything on iPod at first.
