Is there any way I can transfer picture files from my ipod to my computer? NO SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS?

I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve the pictures i put on my ipod and put them back on my computer. My laptop crashed and my ipod is now the only place my files are. Also PLEASE NO SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS! I know there is a way to beat the itunes system I just don’t know how? Maybe similair to the way you do it for music?
Please help!

you need to put it into disk mode.
Here is an article that explains how to do so on the click wheel models (if you have an itouch than you need to search for another way)http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651. Go into explorer and explore through the files, you should be able to find the one with pictures in it.
